The Japanese group Jiemei has been announced for exclusive performances at Japan Expo this year. Why not get to know them with us and make the most of their show? We’ll tell you everything you need to know.

Let’s lay the groundwork:

Jiemei comes from the Mandarin word jiěmèi (姐妹), which literally means “sisters.”
Their fans, on the other hand, are affectionately called hǎomèi (好妹), meaning “little sister” in a warm, endearing way.

The group is made up of four female members:

  • Yaotome Nia (八乙女 ニア) – Red
  • Nemume Rita (眠目 り汰) – Yellow
  • Reisame Wana (黎鮫 ワナ) – Blue
  • Kamishiro Roze (神代 ロゼ) – White

Originating from Nagoya, Jiemei made their debut in April 2022 and quickly swept across Japan, mainly performing in Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka.

The group describes their genre as alternative rock.

More specifically, Jiemei blends elements of loud rock, math rock, electronicore, and metalcore. [Na?] is an excellent starting point for discovering Jiemei.

Not only is it the most representative of their sound, but it also played a major role in boosting their popularity starting in 2023.

Jiemei has released a full album, LUNA4, which came out on October 10, 2023, and currently stands as a true showcase of the group’s identity. They’ve also released no fewer than five EPs, including three in 2025 alone.

One of our favorites is “We are…” from the EP RADIATER, which truly captivated us with its energy, raw emotion, and impressive musical mastery.

Shortly before the release of LUNA4, Japanese media were already showering Jiemei with praise—so much so that some even saw them as surpassing the industry giant of the time, BiSH.

With loud rock as their foundation, they deliver a modern and energetic sound, shifting from intricate passages to electronic or metalcore elements. Their ability to perform such demanding tracks showcases true technical skill.

From an interview on Real Sound, 2025

Musically, it's a great success, but what about their live performance? Once again, praise is not in short supply. Despite their relatively young career, their professionalism has won over audiences.

“Their singing and movements, everything is fast. Their performances, with impactful vocals and powerful stage gestures, have an extraordinary speed and intensity. Like ninjas or assassins, they combine razor-sharp precision with agility.”

From an interview on Pop'n'Roll, 2023

If they perform so well on stage, it’s also thanks to their emotional maturity.

In an interview with Gekirock, they shared that after witnessing their audience, sometimes with tears in their eyes, they now feel more comfortable and free to express their vulnerabilities and emotions on stage.

This genuine emotional expression is a true mark of authenticity that can be felt in their performances.

“I feel like my emotions have deepened. Many fans are very emotionally expressive, and it’s understandable that they cry at birthday concerts or commemorative events… but they also cry at regular shows.

When I realize that everyone relates the lyrics to their own lives and cries, I think it’s okay to show my vulnerabilities.

So now, I don’t find it embarrassing to show them; on the contrary, I find it amazing to be able to touch hearts like that.”
